Quality assurance in the food industry: Early rejection of defective products

Carrying out quality assurance of bulk products and rejecting faulty items should be performed as early as possible in order to ensure the saleable product value is kept and only the purchase value of the raw material is lost.

X-ray scanners specifically designed for lumpy products (e.g. meat cutlets) require a different ejection system, which has to ensure high-speed efficiency just like flap systems. These consist of either discharge belts designed as retraction belts, where products exit the product flow through an opening created between two conveyor belts, or belts able to eject products within the system via a reversing operation. This ejection mechanism saves a lot of space due to defective products being discharged into a side container placed underneath the inspection system.
